What we’re looking for
MTF is looking for articles written by full-time and
part-time [seasonal] residents of Franklin, NC or Macon
County. These articles need to be about the Franklin
area or its residents at events here or other areas
outside our community. These articles can be about national
and world events. The focus is to make My Town Franklin
a source for good news, opinions, history of the area,
experiences, and even events. Remember, to view our
User Policy referring to Your Conduct when deciding
what to submit to MTF.
If your article can do that, we want to see it.
How to write an article for
MTF
Please conduct proofreading and ensure correct spellings
on your articles. We may breeze over the article before
publishing it and may miss something. Please ensure
your paragraphs and bold titles and subsections are
clearly marked so that we can ensure proper layout of
your article.
How to submit an article for
consideration
Please use our submission form. We try to review submissions
at least once a week, but sometimes it takes longer.
(Sometimes a lot longer.) Patience is a virtue.
If you use Microsoft Word or plain text, please put
link text in square brackets, with the URL in parentheses
following your link text (or use Textile marks).
Example: [My Town Franklin] (www.mytownfranklin.com)

by copyright. Except concerning translations, you may
not reproduce our articles online or in print without
first obtaining written permission. Contact us; we will
contact the author to obtain his/her/their consent.
The unique combination of images, colors, sizes, typography,
and positioning (“the design”) is copyright

Images, including those used in articles, cannot be
reproduced outside this website, except by the author
or designer who created them.
General notes
Articles written for publication on My Town Franklin
use an informal, conversational tone, though not at
the cost of clarity or correctness. Experts require
neither excessive formality nor excessive casualness
to express their authority. If you write with MTF’s
readership in mind and sound like yourself, you’re
most of the way there already.
Concise articles with snappy
intros
Our article space is intentionally limited to a single
page. There is no room for meandering, no space for
encyclopedic completeness. You need to get in, score,
and get out. State your idea clearly and quickly. If
your tutorial solves a problem, state the problem. Don’t
warm up to your subject by preceding it with generalizations.
You don’t need to tell our readers that Tim Berners-Lee
invented the web before getting to your point.
Images
Images will be sized by MTF to fit appropriately to
our standards and layout. We will also compress them
as needed. So we prefer you send images in JPEG form,
or line art as GIF PNG. Large is fine and preferred,
but please keep the final file size at 2 MB or less.

Author bios and photos
All final drafts should be accompanied by an author
bio and photo. Author bios should be 30 to 40 words
long and may include links. They should be snappy, informative,
and brief.
Author photos don’t need to be professional portraits,
but should look polished. My Town Franklin will prepare
them for publication, so please send them as un-tweaked
files of a reasonable resolution so that we can adjust
them and shrink them for final placement. 400px by 300px
is a nice minimum size.
Why Register?
The only real reason to register with My Town Franklin
is so you can post in the forums, or respond to the
articles. We won't sell your email address to anyone
and we won't divulge any of your precious personal information.
Your information is relatively safe and will be looked
after by a small but highly trained staff of monkeys.
Please keep in mind that My Town Franklin is a professional
resource and as such many of the people on the forums
are professionals. This means that they are adults.
Many of which have bizarre senses of humor. While there
is a treasure trove of information and resources on
this site there is also a lot of content that may offend
the sensitive amongst you. If you are one of these people
it's officially not our fault if you cry.

My Town Franklin Magazine explores the history, people
and traditions of our area. It also hosts authors with
great expertise that you may find useful, or the opinions
that may infuriate you. But hey, that is what the response
