Dear Kin and Friends,

Henry called last night, said he knows approximately when they’re going to Marjah but can’t say more about it. This is his second phone call in 3 days, and I take that to mean the offensive will be soon. He’s averaged a call every 2 weeks up till now. Later last night, Becky noted how “weird” these phone conversations with Henry are, knowing the situation he’s in, half a world away. You can pinch yourself or slap yourself, but there remains an element of unreality about them, a dreamlike or nightmare quality that you can’t wake yourself out of. Benefit Singing For Kimberly TaylorIt’s hard to believe, looking at the “after” picture of the truck, that anyone could have survived this accident. Kimberly was air-evac’d into Asheville and was there for a week in the hospital. At the time of the accident she was working two jobs. Her vehicle (seen left) was totaled. They haven’t been able to pay all the bills because of the accident. This couple has three children. There are 2 money jars; one at the Clayton Cafe on Main St. in Clayton and one at Kountry Vittles in Rabun Gap. They are struggling financially. Read more…
