8th Annual Toys for Tots Car Show

This past Saturday, November 17th, 2007 Smoky Mountain Chevrolet of Franklin held their annual Toys for Tots Car show. This is the 8th year of this great event. It was one of the best turnouts for car entries and spectators so far. On hand was Bad News, a car crushing monster truck from Bronson, FL.
The event resulted in 256 toys, 204 stocking stuffers, and $105 dollars in donations. You can see lots of photos of the 2007 Toys for Tots car show and the monster truck by clicking here.
The Toys for Tots
program which began with the Marine Corps Reserve in 1947, collects new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distributes those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.
The Marine Corps League of Franklin, NC operates the program that covers Macon, Jackson and Swain counties of NC and Rabun, Habersham, and Stephens counties of GA.
You can help in these communities by participating through toy collection boxes and change collection jugs in these counties. You will see participating businesses displaying a Toys for Tots Sponsor banner in their window. As you visit these businesses, drop off new unwrapped toys in collection boxes, or your spare change in the collection jugs.
Other few other events include the High Mountain Squares Toys for Tots Dance, Dec 2nd, Habitat for Humanity Christmas Party and Lions Club Christmas Dinner in December. The Marines will also participate in the Franklin, Highlands, Cashiers, and Clayton Christmas Parades. So you can also give a new unwrapped toy as you see the Marines coming down the street.
This very important program helps brings smiles to children at Christmas time and the Marine Corps League feel blessed to be a part of it.
